This month, we’re exploring what it means to BE a Student—committing to continuous learning to stay ahead.

This week: Consider simple solutions.

In this series, we explore elements of learning and being a student.

As an adult student, we may forego the simple lesson or solution because—well—because it seems too simple.

But here’s the truth: simple doesn’t mean easy.
While a concept or solution might appear simple, the application or action might be difficult. You can “get it” and still not be able to “do it.”

Why Simple Solutions Matter

When you break learning down into its simplest parts, you remove unnecessary complexity. Ego often wants to complicate things, but simplicity is what makes progress possible.

And when distraction or procrastination begin to creep into the process, the solution isn’t to push harder—it’s to pause. Take a break. Take a breath. Then start again.

The Challenge

Even for life-long learners, the challenges and discomfort that accompany adult learning can feel formidable. It’s easy to let frustration or self-judgment take over.

But when you stay in observer mode, you allow resistance and reactions to be viewed objectively—as part of the learning process itself. That perspective shifts everything.

Take Action This Week

In your next learning opportunity, try this:

  • Break the lesson down into the simplest possible steps.
  • Notice when distraction or procrastination show up—then pause and reset.
  • Stay patient with yourself.
  • Remind yourself: simple ≠ easy, but it’s the way forward.

Trust the process. Go with it.

Now, what can you simplify today that you’ve been complicating?
